Remulla: PNP creates TF29 to crack down cops in P6.7B drug haul

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said a total of 86 firearms were confiscated by the Philippine National Police as 6,327 checkpoints were placed in strategic areas nationwide beginning January 12 as part of the election gun ban.

Remulla said the police checkpoints were part of the strategic measures on peace and safety concerns for the 2025 National and Local Elections in May.

He faced the media on Wednesday morning during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay at Cafe Adriatico, 1970 M. Adriatico., Remedios Circle, Malate, Manila.

According to Remulla, 33 of the 86 confiscated firearms were through various checkpoints, 10 were from buy-bust operations, 39 were via police response, and 3 were taken through active search warrants.

Remulla: PNP budget for IT programs to be restored, additional intel funds to be removed

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday said President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. ordered the reversion of the budget of the Information and Technology programs of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the removal of the additional P500-million intelligence funds of the PNP.

This was announced by Secretary Remulla during a press briefing in Malacaรฑang organized by the Presidential Communications Office after his meeting with the President on DILG priority programs this year.

The DILG Chief said they found variances in the agencyโ€™s line item budgets in the 2025 General Appropriations Act compared to the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP) which included budget cuts in the PNP IT program and the inserted P500M intelligence funds of the police force.
